Welcome to PACE IQ, a mobile application developed by StepUp Horse ApS (“we,” “us,” or “our”). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your personal data.

PACE IQ is designed to help racehorse trainers and riders track horse workouts, monitor speed, measure pace, and manage structured interval training. To deliver these core training services, PACE IQ collects and processes certain technical and performance data, including real-time location (GPS) data.

This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use and store it, our integration of third-party services, and your rights under applicable privacy laws, including the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

3. Data We Collect and Why We Collect It

We collect and process only the minimum amount of data necessary to provide a high-quality, reliable, and secure training-tracking experience.

A. Location Data (Core Feature)

What we collect: Precise, real-time geographical coordinates (GPS latitude, longitude), altitude, speed, and heading.
Why we collect it: Accurate tracking of horse movement, speed, pace (e.g., min/km), distance, and interval sessions is the primary function of PACE IQ. Without this data, the app cannot calculate or display performance metrics.
Background Location Processing: Because riders must keep their mobile devices in pockets, armbands, or run the app on an Apple Watch with the screen locked/minimized, PACE IQ requires permission to collect location data in the background.
- Important: We only track location when a training or tracking session is actively running. Location tracking begins when you tap “Start Workout” and ends completely when you tap “Stop” or “Finish Workout.” We do not track your location outside of active training sessions.

B. Workout and Performance Data

What we collect: Workout history, speed curves, paces, distances, interval configurations, race simulations, track conditions, weather conditions, horse names associated with workouts, and trainer notes.
Why we collect it: To provide workout history, performance trends over time, and a searchable training diary for trainers.

C. Account and Authentication Data

What we collect: When you sign up, your account is securely authenticated using Google Firebase Authentication. While we do not directly collect, harvest, or store personal credentials or email marketing lists on our own proprietary servers, Firebase Authentication handles secure sign-in tokens.
Why we collect it: To uniquely identify you, secure your training data, and allow you to sync your workout history seamlessly across multiple devices (e.g., iPhone, Android, or Apple Watch).

D. Subscription and Billing Data

What we collect: Subscriptions (e.g., PACE IQ Pro) are managed entirely through the Apple App Store (iOS) and Google Play Store (Android). We do not collect, store, or have access to your credit card details, bank account numbers, or billing addresses.
What we receive: We only receive transaction confirmation codes, subscription statuses, and expiration dates from Apple or Google to activate the corresponding features on your PACE IQ account.

E. Technical, Diagnostic, and Analytics Data

What we collect: Device model, operating system version, app version, unique device identifiers, network state, and app crash logs (processed via Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics).
Why we collect it: To monitor app health, diagnose performance issues, fix software bugs, and understand overall app usage patterns so we can continuously improve the user experience.

4. Integration of Third-Party Services

To provide a robust and synchronized experience, PACE IQ integrates with secure, trusted industry-standard services:

Google Firebase Authentication: Manages secure login and session validation.
Google Firebase Cloud Firestore / Realtime Database: Securely stores and synchronizes your workout history, settings, and profile data in the cloud.
Google Firebase Cloud Storage: Securely holds and serves app assets or log backups.
Google Firebase Crashlytics & Analytics: Monitors app crashes and aggregates usage patterns to help us maintain software quality.
Google Maps API / SDK: Used to render interactive map overlays of your training paths and routes on your screen.

These third-party providers process data in compliance with their respective privacy policies. They are prohibited from using your data for any purpose other than providing services to StepUp Horse ApS.

If you are located within the European Economic Area (EEA), our legal basis for collecting and using your personal data depends on the data context:

Performance of a Contract: Processing location, workout, and subscription status data is necessary to perform our contract with you (i.e., delivering the tracking and training features you request).
Consent: We request your explicit consent to access precise GPS location services (including background location) on your mobile device. You can withdraw this consent at any time via your device’s system settings.
Legitimate Interests: We process diagnostic logs (via Crashlytics) and anonymized analytics to ensure security, maintain software stability, and improve PACE IQ, which constitutes a legitimate business interest.

6. Data Security & Storage

Data Transmission: All communications between the mobile application and our Firebase backend are encrypted in transit using industry-standard Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) / Transport Layer Security (TLS) technology.
Data Security: We apply stringent access controls, database rules, and security policies within the Firebase ecosystem to prevent unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction of your data.

7. International Data Transfers

As we utilize Google Firebase services, some of your data may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA), such as the United States.

To ensure that your data remains safe, Google implements Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission and is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework to guarantee an equivalent level of data protection.

8. Data Retention

Workout and Profile Data: We retain your workout history and profile settings as long as your PACE IQ account remains active, so that you can view and analyze your horse training history.
Diagnostic and Analytics Logs: Log files and crash data processed through Firebase Crashlytics are kept on a rolling basis and are typically deleted or anonymized automatically within 90 days.
Account Deletion: You can request the deletion of your account and all associated workout data directly within the app settings or by contacting us at [email protected]. Once requested, your personal records and history will be permanently deleted from our active Firebase databases.

Under the GDPR and other applicable privacy laws, you possess the following rights:

Right of Access: You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Right to Rectification: You can request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
Right to Erasure (“Right to be Forgotten”): You can request that we delete your account and associated workout history.
Right to Restrict or Object to Processing: You can object to certain data processing activities or ask us to limit how we use your data.
Right to Data Portability: You can request a machine-readable export of your training history.
Right to Withdraw Consent: Where we rely on consent (e.g., location permissions), you can withdraw consent at any time through your mobile operating system settings.

10. Children’s Privacy

PACE IQ is intended for professional and amateur horse trainers, riders, and equine enthusiasts. It is not designed or intended for use by children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we discover that a child under 16 has provided us with personal data, we will delete it immediately.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our services, technical integrations, or legal obligations. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the “Last Updated” date at the bottom of this policy or via an in-app notification.
